A short shifter and a short throw shifter are often used interchangeably to refer to the same modification, which is designed to reduce the distance that the gear shift lever travels between gears, thus reducing the time it takes for the driver to change gears. This is achieved by altering the angle of the shifter in relation to the fulcrum point.
